Folkestone Literary Festival Programme Announced

A The lively programme for this year’s Folkestone Literary Festival, 2nd – 10th November, promises 9 days of engaging live performances and entertaining debate.

Now in its sixth year, the Festival’s most ambitious programme to date features over 70 speakers in a packed schedule. Authors including

David Frost, Roy Hattersley, Nicholas Parsons, Tony Benn, Michael Morpurgo, David Starkey, James Naughtie, Sandra Howard and John Humphrys will be taking partalongside a host of entertainers, poets and creatives in a week which has fast become one of the region’s most important cultural events.

The Festival programme includes History and Environment strands; a special Children’s event including performances from former Children’s Laureate Michael Morpurgo; family reading sessions, a new event for young people featuring Colin Foreman, film screenings (including Al Gore’s ‘An Inconvenient Truth’), a Cabaret evening, book swap, exhibitions, tours of the town and more. In addition to public events there will also be school sessions with writers and poets including Steve Tusane and theatre creators KAOS.

Festival Director Ellie Beedham said, “We have tried to add something special to this year’s Festival. Alongside our traditional mix of acclaimed authors and speakers, some of whom have proved so popular they are returning for the second or third time, we have introduced new elements such as street theatre, a Cabaret night and a digital animator to attract and involve fresh audiences in the Festival week.”

This year the Festival will take place in a range of venues across Folkestone including the performance space at the new Folkestone Academy. There will also be opportunities for audience members to have a guided tour of the new £40 million school designed by Foster and Partners.

The Box Office opens at 10am on Monday 1st October.
