Festival Read
'The Other Boleyn Girl' by Philippa Gregory
The Kent historical theme of this year's short story competition prompted the choice for the Festival Read of 'The Other Boleyn Girl' by Philippa Gregory. This fascinating historical novel, much of which is set in Hever Castle, tells how Mary Boleyn attracts the attention of the young King Henry VIII and becomes his mistress; when he tires of her, she sets out to school her sister, Anne, as a replacement. Politics and passion are inextricably bound together in this compelling drama.
It is hoped that as many people as possible will read the book and come along to discuss it at an event being organised for the Festival.
