FRIDAY NOVEMBER 2 - SATURDAY NOVEMBER 10
The Folkestone Herald, Friends of the Folkestone Literary Festival & Waterstone’s 2007 Short Story Competition
Entrants to the competition should submit an unpublished piece of fiction of up to 1500 words:
The Story should be concerned with a journey of some sort . It could be about travel in a car, a boat, a train, a plane or on foot; it could be a hitchhiking tale. It could involve a travel accident and the repercussions for those involved. It might be a story of a journey to work, or travel to and from a holiday destination. On the other hand it could be the story of returning to a childhood home after a long absence or the journey to a wedding or funeral and the memories and thoughts involved in that journey.
Alternatively it could be a journey of the mind - the struggle of coming to terms with triumph or disaster - of moving on from one way of life to another or from or towards religious belief; it might involve a character dealing with bereavement or the end of a relationship; It could be a rite of passage story moving from childhood to adolescence, adolescence to adulthood, from university to work or from work to retirement. It might be a story of someone approaching death – the final journey.
