Short Story Competition 2006

The Story should involve in some way a work of art, whether words, picture, music, dance or anything else, well-known or otherwise. This can be as central or as incidental to your story as you choose. The story could be based on a character in a book, a line in a poem or song, a painted scene or a moment of music. Alternatively it might take place at a theatre, a rock concert or even a literary festival! Finally it could be a story of how a book, poem, or song has influenced or changed a character’s life or led them to take some unexpected action. It could be a mystery, romance or tragedy.

Entries should consist of a piece of fiction of up to 1500 words.

There is no entry fee. The competition will have three classes: Age 5-11, 12-17 and 18 and over. The winner of the 18 and over class will receive a prize of £50. The winners of the other two classes will receive £25. In addition the winning stories will be posted and remain on the Festival website. It is hoped that there will be a presentation of the prizes at an event during the Festival.
